HNZ: Announcement: 30 August 2022

Appointment of National Commissioner

It is with much pleasure that I announce the appointment of Abbe Anderson as our permanent National Commissioner, Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand.  Abbe will be joining us on 12 September

Abbe comes to us from Brisbane where she works with the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health, supporting the development of community-controlled commissioning frameworks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. She is also a director on the boards of Beyond Blue, Australia's most recognised mental health charity, and the Sunshine Coast Hospital & Health Service, serving a population of 460,000 people. Abbe brings considerable experience in a diverse range of hospital and primary care systems, including two decades leading complex system reforms.

Whilst CEO of the Brisbane North Primary Health Network (PHN), Abbe successfully led the organisation through two significant government reforms to transition from a Division of General Practice to a Medicare Local and then to a PHN that commissions primary care services for a population of over one million people.  As the first Medicare Local in Australia, she oversaw the team that developed the initial commissioning principles and frameworks that later formed the basis for many of the Australian Government Department of Health's national commissioning policies that now guide the work of the Primary Health Networks across 31 regions of Australia.

Originally from Colorado in the USA, Abbe is a dual citizen of New Zealand and Australia, and has undertaken executive study at Otago University and worked alongside rural hospitals in Te Waipounamu earlier in her career. She is passionate about equity and self-determination, is driven by a deep curiosity and excited by ingenuity.

Please join with me in welcoming Abbe to our team.

Thank you and farewell to Keriana Brooking

I also wish to take this opportunity to thank Keriana for all she has done over the past months carrying out the Interim National Commissioner role in preparation for the permanent appointment. Keriana has ensured the initial modelling work has commenced, worked hard to ensure there are no gaps in service provision in our funded sector, and put the first permanent Commissioning roles out for recruitment.

It is with sadness I acknowledge that Keriana will be leaving Te Whatu Ora - she has an exciting new opportunity which she will be progressing.  Keriana has worked in various roles in health over many years, both NGO and DHB as well as the Ministry of Health, and for the last two years as chief executive for the Hawkes Bay DHB.  In every role she has made a difference for our communities within which she has worked.

I wish Keriana well and look forward to seeing her in the future, and again, pass on my sincere and genuine thanks to her.

Ngā mihi

Margie

2022 Salary Survey Information

Kia ora … I hope this email finds you well and despite the immense stresses, sacrifices and most likely sadness over the past few months, you found a way to move surviving into thriving.

It has been a delayed start but in this email we are sending you the link for the 2022 PMAANZ Remuneration Survey.

We know time is a precious commodity and 15 minutes is a big chunk of your time but with the deepest respect and complete acknowledgement of the burden of your workload, we ask (with cap in hat) that you please complete the survey.

This survey is a foundational aspect of PMAANZ’s contribution to its membership and provides the Association with important information to assist the Executive with strategic planning, and also provides you with information to benchmark your remuneration alongside practices of a similar profile.

We believe this is an invaluable tool in identifying current levels of remuneration as well as potential disparity.

As this is the ninth survey we have conducted we now have empirical data which enables us to better understand the changes that have occurred in the health sector.

The survey will be open until Friday 10 July; if you have any issues with the survey please let me know on treasurer@pmaanz.org.nz.

The results of the survey will be available free of charge to PMAANZ members. Non-members will be able to access the report for a fee of $175.00(incl GST).

Thank you, take care and stay well.
