HNZ: New campaign | 'Talk to us today' and measles collateral | Vaccination hui
Dear health sector friends, advocates and colleagues
COVID-19
To help drive vaccination uptake we have a number of promotional activities in train…
New vaccination campaign coming
Last week we mentioned that we’re adding a new layer to our immunisation promotional work, focusing on COVID-19 and flu vaccinations. The objective of this campaign is to help explain ‘why’ is vaccination important and to cut through vaccination fatigue and apathy. We want to encourage people to engage with our vaccination messaging and get their vaccinations. This will be a six week campaign, starting in August. We have received a couple of concepts from the advertising agency which are currently being tested. We’ll provide an update on progress next week.
Digital advertising campaign promoting second boosters
To help increase second booster uptake, we’re introducing a new digital advertising campaign on 26 July targeting people 50+ eligible for this dose. This will be in a Q & A format.
Direct communications
We’re currently running two direct communications campaigns using a combination of email, SMS and posted letters:
- one to people eligible for a first booster (particularly Māori and Pacific people aged 50+ and other ethnicities aged 65+), who haven’t yet had one.
- one to those eligible for their second booster (each week, more people meet the six month gap threshold and become eligible).
Engagement is looking positive so far. We should be able to share results with you next week.
Flu
New flu resources
We have amended some of our flu posters and digital assets so they are more suited for display within primary care settings. Rather than saying ‘talk to your healthcare provider’ they’ve been updated to say ‘talk to us today’. You can find these in the ‘Talk to us’ folder in our Dropbox - Influenza - Simplify your life.
GENERAL UPDATES
Health sector hui – vaccination update
Next Wednesday afternoon (1.00 – 2.00pm, 27 July), the National Immunisation Programme is holding a virtual hui to update health sector colleagues on current vaccination activities (including COVID-19, Influenza, and MMR). It is an open invitation, so please pass the invitation on to anyone in your team/network that you think would like to attend.

Your feedback requested
If there are any other types of collateral that would help you promote vaccinations, please let us know. We’re keen to get your feedback.
Paediatric flu
Following on from our reminder to vaccinate tamariki younger than three years old who have serious respiratory illnesses, we’re pleased to report many providers are making great progress vaccinating this cohort. We really appreciate your efforts – being vaccinated makes an immediate difference to the health of these vulnerable young children. If your team hasn’t managed to get to this group yet, please don’t delay. We will have paediatric flu vaccination stats to share with you soon.
MMR
New resources
We have a new measles flyer and poster focused on the under five years old age group. These will be loaded to our Dropbox shortly, but are attached to the email for today. Translations will follow.
